Surrendering YOUR Big Dreams!
Your dreams can carry you and give you hope. They put a pep in your step and when they come to fruition it’s even better. You plan, you take the necessary action steps, and you wait in expectation, hopeful that things will work out. Except they don’t. In those moments it’s easy to get angry, question God and look for an easy way out. You may even throw your hand up and ask God will “I” ever get what “I” want? Truthfully the answer is- NOT ALWAYS!
The year I applied to graduate school, a few months after I submitted the application, the Program Manager called to let me know I was going to be conditionally admitted into the program. The condition of admission was I had to take a $6,000 prerequisite course before I could start classes in the fall AND I wasn’t eligible for financial aid. I did all I could to get the $6,000 but, in the end, I came up short and had the to tell the Program Manager I wouldn’t be able to start the program. I felt so deflated. My finances were getting in the way AGAIN and I had to let go of the idea of starting my dream program. I thought “God why would you open all these doors of me finding and applying to the program only to have me sit out?” I understood His answer later. It was TIMING! So that year instead of beginning my dream program I enrolled in community college and let go. It wasn’t easy, but I did it. When I got back into the classroom at the community college, I got readjusted to being a student again and it helped set the stage for success when I did finally get into my dream program.
Do you have your own ideas about where God is taking you? Are you so stuck on those ideas that there is no room for God? Sometimes you have to be willing to let go of your version of the dream in exchange for Gods. Sometimes you have to be brave enough to surrender your dream not just with your mouth but with your heart. It may look like standing before God and saying something like: “Yes, I thought I was going to focus on hyperpigmentation in my treatment room, but God if you are calling me to work in research and development, I will do it. Even if it means you are calling me out of esthetics, I will do it.” It is that kind of unabashed commitment that will open your heart to the will of God. BUT it can be painful and open up a barrage of emotions. How can you manage the pain? First, allow yourself to grieve. Let the tears flow and acknowledge your feelings which may range from disappointment, heartache and excitement. Next, pray. Go to God with an open heart, be quiet, and let the Holdy Spirit intercede on your behalf to get directions on your next steps. Finally, open your heart. Set your heart and mind on Gods plan for your life and remember God might not be taking away your dreams, he may just be putting a few finishing touches on them.
Beautifully Yours,
Regina
